Overthinking is a mental condition in which a person thinks about something excessively and repeatedly, often beyond what is necessary or helpful. Instead of leading to clear solutions, the thinking process becomes circular, with the same thoughts replaying over and over again. A person may analyze small details too deeply, imagine negative outcomes that have not happened, or constantly question past decisions. This pattern of thinking can create unnecessary worry, self-doubt, and mental exhaustion. Although thinking carefully is important for making good decisions, overthinking goes further by turning simple situations into complicated problems.
