The Prophet Muhammad was born in the year of the elephant, the term for that period was taken when it was marked by the famous incident where Abraha and his army of elephants failed to attack the Kaaba. His birth coincided with Monday based on the words of the Prophet when asked about fasting on Mondays (HR Muslim 1162). Some scholars argue on the 12th of the month of Rabi’ul Awal and some scholars argue on the 9th of the same month. His father was named Abdullah bin Abdilmuthallib bin Hasyim from the Quraysh tribe, while his mother was named Aminah. His father died in Yathrib (Medina) when he was still in the womb.
